By combining motoneurons derived from DM1 patients with healthy muscle cells, researchers were able to isolate the contribution of each cell type.
The result: neuromuscular junction defects persist — smaller acetylcholine receptor clusters, abnormal calcium signalling. The motoneurons are therefore also involved in the disease.
This « hybrid » approach was made possible by CYTOO’s 96-well micropatterned plates, designed for neuromuscular coculture.
Each well contains ~100 micropatterns, enabling robust analysis across multiple conditions.
