Can an ALK5 inhibitor preserve muscle better than bimagrumab?

We put the question to the test at the Obesity & Weight Loss Drug Development Summit in Boston, and the answer has implications for every programme tackling muscle wasting.

Using MyoScreen™, our human skeletal muscle platform built on primary patient-derived myotubes on micropatterned substrates (100+ mature, standardised myotubes per well of a 96-well plate) here’s what the data showed:

🔹 ALK5 validated as the key upstream driver of myostatin-induced muscle-wasting signals: a new, screenable target

🔹 RepSox, an ALK5 inhibitor, rescued atrophy more potently than bimagrumab (a clinical anti-myostatin antibody) across multiple wasting inducers

🔹 A ~3x increase in glucose uptake in human myotubes : metabolic benefit alongside muscle preservation Human biology. High-content, image-based readouts. Population-level statistical power.
